“Baudrillard on ‘Simulacra and Simulation'”
Wednesday, 24th of January, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Location: Arun. 404B

All welcome.

Abstract:

Following on from last weeks discussions on the nature of ‘truth’ and postmodernism Anna Dumitriu – Artist in Residence at CCNR, will give a short presentation, as a starting point for a directed discussion, on Jean Baudrillard’s “Simulacra and Simulation”. Baudrillard claims that our society has replaced all reality and meaning with symbols and signs and that
what we consider to be real is actually a simulation of reality.

Click here for a more detailed abstract of the presentation. The PowerPoint slides can be downloaded here. And the Daily Mail article on “It’s art says the naked woman who’ll hug a dead pig on stage” can be downloaded here.

Due to popular demand Anna has kindly supplied us with some more material from her talk including the hand-out, the slides, and the Daily Mail’s response to Kira’s art, all of which can now be downloaded from the main post above. Thanks Anna! :-)
