Seminar #17: Social Interaction Rhythm and Participatory Sense-Making

Posted in Seminars by Tom Froese on April 24, 2007

The second Life and Mind seminar of the summer term will be tomorrow, Wednesday the 25th of April, at 15:00 in room Pev1 2A01 (note room change!). Hanne will be leading a discussion on:

Social Interaction Rhythm and Participatory Sense-Making

In my quest to understand how people understand each other, I will present in the Life and Mind seminar tomorrow a way of extending the enactivist notion of sense-making into the domain of interpersonal understanding. I will present:

  • how such an extension can be made (involving a close look at the physical aspects of interpersonal interaction processes, characteristics of ‘sense-making’, and the interplay between the individual(s) involved in an interaction and the interaction-process-as-system)
  • a new perspective on (definition of?) social cognition that arises from this,
  • and some implications of this move.

Looking forward!
